Words From Fighters & Survivors

  • I received a letter from the hospital about my results. The dye showed 2 blockages in my heart but also a shadow in my left breast. Naturally this was a shock as I had no lump and no indication there was a problem. Within 2 weeks I had a mammogram and biopsy. I was told not to worry as there was a 2% chance that it was cancer. In the meantime I went back to the hospital for another heart test.

  • My 30th year was always going to be my year of travels, of life, success and love. So when they told me I had cancer my world fell apart. It took away a huge part of me and really knocked my confidence, but deep down I knew I could still be that bubbly girl who embraces each day. I had two operations, four and a half months of chemotherapy and three weeks of radiotherapy. My family and friends helped me through the months of treatment – having their support was so important and gave me strength when I needed it most.

I was recalled after my first mammogram. I was shocked to find it was cancer as I hadn’t felt anything. I had a biopsy and waited a week for the results. I was very anxious due to my previous bowel cancer diagnosis.
